Climate Crisis and Parenting, Work and Activism – Topical IFS Workshops for Relief and Resourcing

Introduction

Take any one workshop, or all three. The workshops will build upon each other and can be taken in a standalone format.

The climate crisis affects all areas of our lives, from home, work, politics, organizing, our environment and our emotions. In this series of 3 sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to work with specific topics that arise for you in the arenas of parenting, work and activism.

While trying to do the right thing, parts can feel burdened or in a dilemma between action/retreat, being visible or hiding, bucking the system or keeping our heads down. IFS is uniquely helpful in unburdening parts that are caught up in these dilemmas. It is an effective approach that respects our inner ecology and offers new possibilities to seemingly intractable situations.

In each session, you’ll be invited to bring a specific issue or topic forward and engage in guided practices that allow you to being working with your parts.

Session 1: Parenting Parts: Kids and the Climate Crisis

Wed, May 06, 2026, 6-7.30 PM GMT

If you have children, work with them, or wonder whether to have children in a climate crisis, this workshop will offer an opportunity to dive into what’s most alive for you with the skilful resources of IFS.

  • Are you concerned about how to talk with children about the climate crisis, e.g., do you protect them or prepare them?

  • Do you want them to be resilient without being overwhelmed, but struggle to do this yourself?

  • Do you experience worry, preemptive grief, or terror for their futures?

  • Do you struggle with whether to have children (or more children) because of the climate crisis?

In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to start with a “trailhead” – a particular situation that is most meaningful to you in parenting in the climate crisis. Then you’ll be guided through working with a part, and accessing the resources of what IFS calls Self (simply the aspect of us that is not a part).

Learning Outcomes

Doing this process in community creates common ground where we can explore not only the processing of deep emotions, burdens, and double binds, but also unwind them and discover possibilities for greater capacity in responding to our children’s needs.

No need to be a parent to join – anyone who cares about children is welcome!

Session 2: Parts at Work: When Values and Value (£) Collide

Wed, May 13, 2026, 6-7.30 PM GMT

The work we do to earn a livelihood does not always express our deepest values. Our current economic systems are not designed for planetary flourishing and mutual benefit.

How do we navigate this tension between our values, and a system based on monetary value at the expense of everything else?

This workshop is for you whatever your pain point at work. Perhaps you are conflicted about speaking up/showing up in an unwelcoming work environment, or struggling to choose work that is more aligned with your values, or experiencing tension with colleagues.

  • In this workshop, you’ll have a chance to start with a “trailhead” – a particular situation that is most meaningful to you in your work, in the midst of the climate crisis.

  • Then you’ll be guided through working with a part, while accessing the resources of what IFS calls Self (the aspect of us that is not a part).

Learning Outcomes

Doing this process in community creates a common ground where we can explore not only our deepest values, but also be honest about our internal conflicts as we live in extractive systems, and access the resources of Self to access more capacity to move toward greater alignment with our values while being deeply compassionate with our protective parts.

Session 3: Parts and Activism: From Burnout to Balance

Wed, May 20, 2026, 6-7.30 PM GMT

We are embedded in dysfunctional systems even as we take action to make a difference. This can lead to a sense of systemic moral injury – bearing witness to unjust wars, genocide, injustice, and climate breakdown that are caused by the same systems we rely on to sustain ourselves and our families.

Facing this collective suffering can lead to burnout, overwhelm, exhaustion, and discouragement.

In this session, we will not turn away from our world in crisis, and we will explore how we can welcome our parts without being flooded by them. We’ll practice together, working with a particular situation in our own lives and an associated part that feels difficult for us, with the emphasis on unblending and resourcing in Self.

Learning Outcomes

When done skillfully, this is not a bypass but gives us more energy, clarity and wisdom to respond to our world in crisis. Our parts alone cannot respond to the immensity of these times, but our Self can.

Whatever your form of action or activism, even if aspirational, you are welcome to join!
